About this part
GE 36-volt, 500-amp controller for 1995-99 E-Z-GO DCS cars
Use only with D1162 motor for speed up to 20 mph and maximum torque
The CONTROLLER, GE 500A, EZ DCS STOCK (Part Number: 627) is a 36-volt, 500-amp electronic speed controller designed for 1995–1999 E-Z-GO DCS (Drive Control System) golf carts
Key Features & Specifications
- Voltage & Amperage: 36-volt, 500-amp power delivery
- Compatibility: Made for 1995–1999 E-Z-GO DCS electric golf carts
- Performance: Built to work with a stock motor to provide extra torque and reach speeds up to approximately 20 mph
A 36V / 500A upgrade controller provides a massive boost in torque and pulling power compared to a standard stock controller (which usually runs at 225A to 300A).
Key Specifications & Application
- Voltage: 36 Volts DC.
- Current Rating: 500 Amps (Peak/Short duration).
- System Type: Commonly found in older EZGO (TXT/PDS), Club Car (DS/Precedent), and Yamaha golf carts.
- Purpose: Ideal for heavily loaded carts, lifting kits, off-road driving, or scaling steep hills where the stock system bogs down or overheats.
Important Maintenance & Upgrade Warnings
If you are replacing or upgrading to a 500-amp controller, you cannot just swap the controller alone without upgrading the rest of your electrical system:
- Heavy-Gauge Cables: You must upgrade your battery and motor cables to at least 4-gauge (4 AWG) or 2-gauge (2 AWG). Stock 6-gauge wires will overheat, melt, or limit the current flow, preventing you from getting the full 500A performance.
- Heavy-Duty Solenoid: A stock solenoid will quickly weld its contacts together under 500 amps. You must install a matching 36V Heavy-Duty Solenoid (typically rated for 200A-400A continuous / 1000A peak).
- Forward/Reverse Switch: If your cart uses a mechanical F&R switch lever (common on older Series carts), it needs to be upgraded to a heavy-duty version, or it will melt from the increased amperage.
